Although I didn’t hear the news that Osama bin Laden was dead until I woke up this morning, last night, when it came out over Twitter, New Yorkers danced in the streets. On a more somber level, the news gratifies all decent people who remember that terrible day, September 11, 2001. Bin Laden was an evil fanatic,, who had been unleashing on the world his ugly vision of human purpose for over two decades. He masterminded the terrifying attack on the Trade Towers that ended in the murder of thousands of Americans, including Christians, Jews,Wholesale Lace Wigs, and Muslims. He also masterminded the murder of men, women, and children in other countries—including directing attacks on Muslims, brazilian hair, the faith he professed, but a faith he used as an excuse for his evil actions.

We owe gratitude for Bin Laden’s death to our intelligence forces, our allies who have helped hunt him down over the years, our military men and women, and our president. Reading about the long, deliberate, careful planning behind the attack that killed Bin Laden should make everyone take pause. It sounds like fiction—like a spy movie, in fact—but it was realpolitik of the first order. This act of justice took intelligence, diligence, patience, and finally, at the end, decisive action.
